When you think of an explosion, do you think more of chaos or order? Explosions are chaotic, right? And yet, the big bang – the biggest explosion ever – is expanding in profound order. What does this mean? Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science agree that the intelligence and cooperation of the cosmos and our planet prove evidence of divine origins. Another unique feature of the big bang is that, unlike other explosions, it is not losing acceleration over time. In other words it is is not fizzling out. In fact, the “outward” acceleration of the universe is increasing – as it it has a life of its own. Astrophysicists are now able to measure to some degree, the elements of the universe. They have found that only 4% of the universe is matter as we know it – tangible stuff we can see, smell, taste, touch and hear. Dark matter, which we cannot see, but can see its effect on the matter around it, makes up 23% of the universe. The remaining 73% is what we are calling dark energy. I find that name funny since it is likely that this “dark energy” is the invisible presence of God or Source Energy. We call it dark because it cannot be seen with the outer eye. This is why devotees turn to faith and prayer and why true seekers eventually turn inward to answer life’s bigger questions.
In the yoga vision, Nada Brahma (god sound), refers to a base vibratory field from which all things rise and return to; much like sound waves rising from silence and eventually returning to silence. This vision of all that is rising from nothingness is an archetypal story found in countless paths of wisdom. The Hawaiian creation The Kumulipo literally means “Beginning-in-deep-darkness”. One of the first passages in the Dao de Jing states, “The being without form is the origin of heaven and earth”. In quantum physics we are beginning to understand that all things measurable rise from “dark energy” an unseen source. This field is alive with profound intelligence that creates an innate order as it is called into manifestation; think of the organizing of a zygote as it builds into a new human being. Each manifestation that rises from Nada Brahma increases the power and intelligence of the field. Think of your life as rising from this ocean of pure consciousness and all the lessons and love of your life is poured back into the ocean like a fine wine when you lay your body down and return to oneness with it. When we understand ourselves as part of this vibratory field we liberate our limited version of self as a body and identity. From this liberated perspective we see beyond the physical boundaries; we move towards mastery.
Third century Buddhists were able to describe a universe much like the one described by modern physics. How did the ancient Dogon know of a star called Sirius B, which wasn’t even photographed by a large telescope until the 1970s? These people understood their access to Nada Brahma; also called the Akashic field. Think of it as the mind of God. The great scientist Tesla studied the Vedas and believed in Akasha. He practiced meditation as a method to opening his mind to see energy in a new way. He looked within to see the outer world in a new way. Einstein also spent hours with eyes closed trying to visualize his theories leaving wiggle room for wonder and guidance from a source beyond him. What if we are all plugged into this deep source of intelligence and guidance, but we are too frantic and compulsive or too lethargic to tune in? How would our lives be different if we did take just a little time each day to tune our antennae (body/mind) to be just a little more receptive to the available downloads of the Akashic field aka mind of God aka Universal Intelligence?
The true path of yoga follows this line of inquiry. The asanas prepare the body to sit strong, aligned, open, and still. Breathing practices and mantra settle the compulsive mind so it too can be more receptive and organized. When body and mind begin to organize themselves, emotions settle and become organized. When this alignment reaches a certain steady depth, it is like the radio dialing finding the perfect spot and we become a transponder picking up powerful signals of inspiration, guidance and deep knowing. It is from this connection to Nada Brahma that we can reclaim our power as great creators and consciously mold the pure vibration into manifestation that heal us and move us towards joyful growth.
