A man got his face smashed in a car crash. Doctor’s used his ear cartilage to reconstruct the nose, but over the years, the nose would grow back toward the shape of the ear. He had to have his nose redone every few years. How did that tissue know it was meant to be an ear? I knew when I was a child I wanted to help people find their authentic expression and live in vibrant well being. My mother talked me into a degree in computer science and for a while I worked as an engineer in silicon valley but there was a raw doughnut in my stomach the whole time. Eventually I left and now, well here I am doing the thing that my 6-year old self somehow knew was my destiny. The planets are spinning in perfect precise proximity to each other and no human engineered that. So what’s going on here? Well, these are all examples of the living ether called Akasha that gives rise to and supports the flow of all life.
Sometimes Akasha is referred to as Space. It is not. Space implies emptiness and Akasha is teeming with profound intelligence and intention. You might say it is the ocean of consciousness that all life rises from and returns to. It is the ever-evolving mind of God. So how can these ideas about Akasha help enhance our lives? For any philosophy to be of service we have to move it into practical application. So, how do we tune into Akasha? The true path of yoga seeks to answer that very question. Let’s start with an example we can all relate to.
Have you ever been ecstatic about a wonderful happening in your life and you go to share your joy with a friend but they are pissed off and just not able to receive or share your joy? Have you ever been in a situation that you are disgusted with and the person next to you, in the same situation, is at peace with everything? These are simple examples of different energy frequencies (aka emotional states) that do not resonate and therefore do not allow connection and clear communication. An even simpler example would be a radio. If a friend told you they heard the most glorious music on the radio on 105FM you would not expect to hear it yourself unless you tuned specifically to 105FM, yes? Okay, so the vibration of Akasha is high, very high. And unless we are close to it, we will not “hear the music” or receive the guidance and inspiration that is available. It is always there, but we have to be tuned to it to receive it.
Artists who are “in the zone” and receive inspiration for their art; they are tapping into Akasha. Scientists who decide to take ayahuasca to quiet their logical brain and listen deeply to life itself are tuning in to Akasha. Yogis who discipline and organize body and mind so they can sit in receptive meditation are tuning in to Akasha. When we sleep deeply, we release resistance and open to Akasha. Have you ever awakened from a good sleep and felt an absolute clarity on your next step in life? That is Akasha getting in to guide you! Akasha is filled with ancestral wisdom, the guidance of your over soul, and the souls of those you share the planet with. Akasha is the very existential intelligence and benevolence producing the infinite expansion of life. Tuning in to it transforms our lives from a struggle to survive to an offering of joy, beauty and betterment. When we make transition (die) all that we have learned is poured into the “mind of God” and the Akashic field increases its wisdom. This is part of how we serve the greater good.
