I met my Miranda when a friend brought her to my Yoga class three years ago. We went on a hike in the Makawao Forest after class. She kept pointing out aspects of the natural beauty. “Look at the light falling on the fer grotto!” she would say in breathless wonder. And at the top of the climb, she announced, “We are going to sit on this big tree trunk and meditate.” And we did. Three friends sitting in silence as the afternoon sun pierced the tree tops and danced around us. We closed our eyes and breathed in the smells, listened to the whispers of wind in the leaves. When we opened our eyes, the colors were somehow deeper and Miranda’s smile was infectious. I knew I had made a great friend.
A few months later Miranda invited me to take a Stand up Paddle tour with her. She set me up with equipment and led me out into the deep blue ocean without hesitation. Her confidence settled me. We met turtles and Manta Rays on the way out and she talked to them like old friends. She told me about the behavior patterns of dolphins and whales and stories of swimming with them herself! I was fascinated. Returning an hour later I said, “Miranda, you should do this for a living!” She looked at me and said, “I think I will. I love this and I am darn good at it.”
And she did. Miranda is the owner Maui Mana Adventures, a successful small tour guide company on Maui offering the most authentic, fun, memorable experiences you could hope for.
